TRAI Prescribes Tariff for SMS and Cell Broadcast Alerts / Messages Disseminated Through Common Alerting Protocol

TRAI has prescribed tariff for short message services (‘SMS’) and cell broadcast alerts / messages through common alerting protocol platform by way of ‘Telecommunication Tariff (Sixty Ninth Amendment) Order, 2022’ dated December 6, 2022. A tariff of ₹0.02 will be applicable for SMS alerts / messages sent during disaster and non-disaster situations and no charges will be applicable for SMS / cell broadcast alerts / messages sent either prior to notification of disaster, during a disaster situation or after expiry of disaster, as per directions issued under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
