Competition Law

AZB & Partners has been closely associated with the development and practice of Competition Law in India. As a result of this, we are particularly sought after for support on all matters pertaining to competition/antitrust enforcement in India. Our practice comprises specialist lawyers with training in competition law, as well as internationally trained lawyers.

The Firm’s clients include a number of MNCs and domestic conglomerates across various industries including information technology, life sciences, media and telecommunications, energy and infrastructure, aviation and retail.

By leveraging the firm’s expertise in mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, complex litigation, intellectual property and regulatory matters, our competition lawyers provide seamless advice to ensure the best possible outcomes for our clients.

Our work includes:

  • Cartels and leniency: multi-pronged assistance in handling cartel cases, beginning with assistance at the time of ‘dawn raids,’ during internal investigations and audits and in submissions and proceedings before the DG, CCI and National Company Law Appellate Tribunal
  • Anti-competitive vertical agreements: advise businesses on how to set up appropriate supply, purchasing and distribution chains, form strategic alliances and also assist them in structuring licensing agreements that are compliant with competition law
  • Abuse of dominance: expertise in pricing related abuses and the interface between intellectual property laws and the Competition Act
  • Merger control: one of the top merger control practices in India which has secured approvals in numerous contentious transactions
  • Antitrust litigation: involved in competition litigation from the very start of India’s competition law regime. Two of our partners were counsel to the CCI in its first case before the Supreme Court of India. Our lawyers routinely represent clients in competition related cases before the Supreme Court. We also routinely represent clients in competition cases in various High Courts under their writ jurisdiction and the NCLAT (earlier COMPAT)
