Introduction of three New Bills to Replace the Indian Penal Code, Indian Evidence Act, and the Code of Criminal Procedure

In a bid to transform the criminal justice system, three new bills viz. the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill, 2023; the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita Bill, 2023; and the Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023, were introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 11, 2023. The Bills seek to replace the Indian Penal Code, 1860; Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973; and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872. Our next issue will analyse the salient features of these bills.
